National Park Krka and Šibenik city - Day trip
Book your vacation
Krka National Park is located in central Dalmatia, a few kilometers from the town of Šibenik. It covers the area from the Krka River to the upper Čikola River. The national park is adorned with 7 magnificent travertine waterfalls, the three largest of which are Manojlovac, Skradinski buk and Roški slap. Below the Skradinski buk waterfall is the Jaruga hydroelectric plant, the second oldest hydroelectric plant in the world and the first in Europe.
The natural and cultural beauties located along the Krka River and the National Park are difficult to describe in words. The park hides the beautiful Visovačko lake with the Visovac monastery, which is located in the middle of the extension of the Krka. In the museum located inside the monastery, you can even find items from the 1st century, during the Roman era. The island of Stipanac is located on the lake, where there are the remains of the ancient church of St. Stipan.
The Krka river itself is interesting because of the 20 fish species, 10 are endemic, which ranks the Krka among the richest rivers in Europe, and monuments of the highest category. The specialty of the National Park and the Krka River are two endemic lizards - the Krk lizard and the brown scaly lizard, as well as 221 species of birds and 18 species of bats.
