BIOGRAD BEACHES

Biograd na Moru, with its position on the border between three national parks, is full of natural resources. The city has as many as three main beaches, each of which has a rich tourist offer, animation for children, and showers and changing cabins.

Bošana

Pebble Beach with a blue flag – Bošana is located on the northwest side of the city, next to the Marina Kornati, and the associated coastal road to St. Filip and Jakov. On the beach, there are facilities such as beach volleyball, entertainment for children that include swings, seesaws, a small water park, several small restaurants, and a fast-food joint. You can rent a pedal boat, sun loungers, and parasols. The beach is also equipped with showers and changing cabins.

Dražica

On the southeast side of Biograd na Moru, there are two beautiful beaches located in the heart of a pine forest. Along the beach, there is a nice promenade with many amenities such as cafes, restaurants, snack bars, stalls with pancakes, fast food, shops, and stands with beach accessories and souvenirs.

There are also additional services such as massages, animation for children, pedal boat rentals, rent-a-scooter, canoes, and boats rental. Dražica beach has a large water slide and a water park, ideal for spending a nice day on the beach, especially for families with children.  On the beach, there are showers and changing cabins. Access to the sea is gradual with existing access for the disabled. Blue Flag as the pride of the beach, and the proof of purity and quality, wings since 2006.

Soline

Soline is a sandy bay with a gradual entrance into the sea, ideal for families with small children located just 150 meters from Mediterranean Village San Antonio. Situated in a pine forest, 50 meters long bay is surrounded by numerous cafes and amenities that stretch along the promenade. Access for the disabled is secured.

Vacation Biograd na Moru

VRANA LAKE

Near the royal city of Biograd na Moru, just a few kilometers down the Adriatic highway in the direction of northern Dalmatia, you will come across a natural phenomenon of the two equally beautiful, and yet so different blue. On the right handside the indented Adriatic coast opens up, and on the left, there is a view of the largest natural lake in Croatia and one of the very few, almost untouched natural habitats of waterfowl – Vrana lake.

Unique bike tracks

Nature park “Vrana lake” covers 57 km², of which the largest part, or a bit over 30 km² belongs to the lake area itself, stretching in the direction north-west to the south-east, parallel to the coastal line, in some places, less than a kilometre apart. The lake is actually a karst field, filled with brackish water, representing crypto depression which makes it unique, not only in Croatia, but also in the wider European area.

There are more than 50 km of bicycle tracks around Vrana lake, differing in weight and the landscape they pass through. The most common cycling route starts in Vrana near the local church, from where the trail climbs to the Majdan hill that oversees the entire Ornithological Reserve of Vrana Lake, and continues along the northern shore of the lake in a southeasterly direction.

Sunset as a souvenir

A visit to the lookout “Kamenjak”, located just above the lake and offering an indescribably beautiful view of the lake, islands of Pašman and Murter as well as the Kornati National Park, is a perfect trip for the whole family and all generations. If you find yourself there before sunset, you will experience a game of indescribable palette of colors, sun, glare and breathtaking water. The lookout point “Kamenjak” can be reached by a detour through villages of Radašinovci and Bakovici. The ascent to the lookout point is a great opportunity for an easy 45-minute walk or a slightly shorter bike ride.

KORNATI NATIONAL PARK 

Nested in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic, on the meeting point of Šibenik and Zadar islands, Kornati national park spans across the unique group of islands that are perfect for one of the day trips from Biograd na Moru.

Eat, Swim, Love

Kornati islands are part of the most indented archipelago on the Mediterranean, with more than a hundred uninhabited islands, rocky islets and shallow reefs. Due to the exceptional beauty of landscape, diversity of the coast and the rich marine ecosystem, in 1980 the greater part of the Kornati maritime zone was declared a national park. It occupies around 220 km2 and includes 89 islands, islets and cliffs, with a coastline that is about 238 km long. 

Lojena beach, also known as the pearl of Kornati, is a sandy beach situated on the south-west part of the Levrnaka island. This mesmerizing white pebble beach is embraced with crystal clear sea and is a perfect spot for you to swim, snorkel and relax. Foodies will enjoy a local restaurant where you’ll be able to enjoy fresh fish and seafood dishes.

Vrulje is the biggest village in the Kornati archipelago. Although Vrulje is not permanently inhabited, around 50 families that live on the island of Murter occasionally go to their properties on the Kornat island where they take care of their olive trees. Kornat is also an official entrance to the Kornati national park.

Another Kornati archipelago must-see is the island of Žut, located between islands Pašman and Kornat. Steep and very indented island coastline provides Robinsonian atmosphere and possible shelter for fisherman boats and small sailboats.

Callin out to all you movie stars!

The most famous among Kornati national park islands, and we mean that literally, is Mana. The island was a backdrop for the 1950’s blockbuster “As the sea rages” featuring Maria Schell, Cliff Robertson and Cameron Mitchell. In order to simulate a Greek fishermen village, the director ordered the construction of stone buildings that remain until now – for us to enjoy the incredible nature while pretending we’re big-shot stars at a movie set. 

The easiest way to reach Kornati islands is by boat that our San Antonio team will help you rent in Biograd marina. The numerous Kornati uplifts offer memorable sights of the unusual geological and geomorphological phenomena that will stay in your memory for a long time. Kornati picks are not especially steep, however, one has to keep in mind that the high sun can make the hike quite unbearable. Therefore, bring your head covers, sunscreens, sunglasses and plenty of liquids, since there is little shade on the Kornati islands. 

BIKE ROUTES BIOGRAD

The area around Biograd na Moru covers a large surrounding zone that includes different geographical features, mountains, islands, plain fields, and karst. Options are endless and all kinds of cyclists will find something for themselves, being a demanding or easier route for recreational cyclists and families. There are around twenty main cycling road routes here, plus shorter trekking variations around main routes, suitable for all ages.

Hinterland route

Biograd circular bike route is approximately 50 km long and takes you through the rural hinterland. It connects the coast with Škabrnja – a village in the north. You will pass through fruitful fields, vineyards, and some excellent traditional taverns to stop by and have a genuine local meal.

Vrana Lake, a beautiful natural and ornithological reserve offer a great relaxed bike ride, very suitable for families. The route will take you up to Kamenjak, probably the best panoramic spot in this area.

Routes for the culture lovers

The route around Zadar will take you to the city’s peninsula exploring this amazing 3.000 years old town and it’s famous Greeting to the Sun and Sea organ monuments. 

Even further from Biograd, pass Zadar, on a small island in the middle of a shallow lagoon there is Nin – a small ancient town, famous as the former capital of Croatian kings, known for the smallest cathedral in the world and the saltworks. The cycling route starts at Zadar and is not very demanding. 

Fancy a challenge? Bike routes Biograd…

For real bike enthusiasts and challengers, a highly recommendable, demanding route would be one combining the best of the sea and mountains. The route is connecting the town of Karlobag and Gračac with its coastal part, moving on towards the hilly area of Gospić and ending back in Karlobag, rounding up the National Park Paklenica.

ISLAND TOURS BIOGRAD

The islands of the Zadar archipelago are located in northern Dalmatia and gravitate to the city of Zadar, with which the inhabited islands are connected by boat. It is a unique phenomenon of over a hundred islands and islets in a relatively small area, which makes it unique in the entire Mediterranean.

Island of Pašman

Pašman is a perfect spot for stress-free relaxation. With its numerous bays, sandy beaches and rich flora and fauna, this island exudes security and is inviting on an adventure. When you feel like exploring, take one of the mountain bike trails all the way to the top where you will have a clear view of Kornati islands, Pašman channel and Vrana lake, or simply stop to watch an exquisite sunset that liberates. With a handful of caves, pits and cultural sights, Pašman is full of hidden treasures that are of inestimable historical and cultural importance. 

Island of Ugljan

Ugljan is one of the most beautiful and beloved islands in the Zadar archipelago. With a relatively dense population, islanders spread around seven settlements the biggest of which is Preko. All the villages on the island give the impression of a harmonious fusion of luxurious Mediterranean nature, rich cultural and historical heritage as well as the traditional and contemporary living. The best way to get to know the island is on bike. Bike trails take you through the picturesque island dorps, bays and hidden nooks.  One such gem is the St. Michael fortress, built in the 12th century by the Venetians. It measures 265 meters in height and makes an ideal point for enjoying superb views across the rest of the island, the Zadar archipelago, the mainland and Dugi Otok.  

Dugi Otok

Sakarun is one of the most famous beaches of Zadar County, located on the northwest coast of Dugi Otok island. Near the beach there are villages of Veli Rat, Verunić, Soline and Božava. Its reputation comes from the white sand and the crystal clear sea, and, since it is surrounded by a pine tree forest, it offers a shade so desirable during the hot summer days. Around 800 meters long, the beach is relatively shallow with the sea that is only 3.5 meters deep at 250 meters from the shore.

The deep bay of Telašćica is one of the most popular havens for yachtsmen in the Adriatic, providing a safe berth during the strongest storms. On the outer side of the Telašćica Bay, vertical cliffs rise into the most prominent steep slope of the Adriatic Sea – the famous “stene” of Dugi Otok island, reaching a height of 161 meter and depths of 85 meters. This is a favorite playing spot for dolphins, while underwater you can spot red corals. Between the bay and the steep cliffs, there is a special gem – a small and very salty lake Mir. Telašćica is approachable by land and partly by road, but for the most part via hiking trails through picturesque Mediterranean landscapes.
